Deputy Charlie McConalogue says the Government’s failure to replace the Motorised Transport Grant & Mobility Allowance has impacted on more than 250 families in Donegal since Ministers decided to scrap the schemes.Charlie McConalogue TDFigures released to the Donegal Deputy reveal that 261 people were approved for tax relief under the Disabled Drivers & Disabled Passengers Scheme last year, the majority of which would’ve qualified for the Motorised Transport Grant & Mobility Allowance.Deputy McConalogue commented, “The large number of people availing of the Disabled Drivers & Disabled Passengers Scheme is clear evidence of the demand for a replacement scheme for the Motorised Transport Grant & Mobility Allowance. Hundreds of people across Donegal were left high and dry when the government abolished the schemes in 2013, and almost two years later there is still no solid information on a replacement scheme. It is a ridiculous situation that has been solely created by this Government. “Since the old schemes were removed, I have consistently put questions to the Minister asking when a replacement scheme will be announced but all I have received is the same old rhetoric. “People in receipt of the Mobility Allowance are fearful of losing the payments, which technically could be stopped at any time, and this uncertainty is causing them huge distress. Thousands of others have been left in limbo since the schemes were abolished, as many of them may not qualify for other substitute schemes. “The Motorised Grant & Mobility Allowance served some of the most vulnerable people in our society and the Minister must finalise a replacement scheme immediately in order to assist them.”McCONALOGUE CALLS FOR URGENCY TO REPLACE MOTORISED TRANSPORT GRANT was last modified: March 24th, 2015 by StephenShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window)
