Josh Thomas had 16 points despite playing with the flu. Anthony Stover had seven points and six blocks for Renaissance, including three rejections in the fourth quarter. Hector Harold was solid with 12 points for the Wildcats. Robert Smith and Myron Samuel led the Panthers with 12 points apiece. Pierre Singletona had 16 points to lead a balanced attack as Twentynine Palms defeated La Salle 66-45 at Yucca Valley in the Division IV-A semifinals. The Lancers trailed 43-19 at the half and never challenged the Wildcats (27-2). La Salle (23-6) was led by Troy Baugh and Jared McCray, who scored 11 points apiece. Baugh was the Camino Real League MVP after averaging 15 points, eight rebounds and six blocked shots. The Lancers had gone through league 10-0. “We were so close (to the finals), and to play like this was disappointing,” Lancers coach Steve Goldstein said. The Lancers dropped an eight-point decision to Twentynine Palms on Jan. 20 but couldn’t get going offensively on Friday. “I am very proud of this team. We had a great year with some great wins,” Goldstein said. Scott Jones scored nine points, Jon Stoddard had six and Tyson Lisboa finished with five for La Salle. 160Want local news?Sign up for the Localist and stay informed Something went wrong. Justin Cook scored 24 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead Renaissance Academy to a 63-54 victory over host Perris on Friday in the semifinals of the CIF-Southern Section Division III-A playoffs. The Wildcats (27-1) outscored the Panthers (18-9) 31-21 in the second half to advance to next Saturday’s final against Corona del Mar at Honda Center. “Our defense in the last five minutes was the difference in the game,” Wildcats coach Sid Cooke said. “We were able to shut them down when it mattered.” Yader Combs had just three points, but Cooke said Combs’ three steals in the last two minutes of the game were crucial to the victory.
