Powered by Firework Other than a marvellous international career, Team India stalwart Ravindra Jadeja has enjoyed an illustrious career in domestic cricket. The iconic all rounder has been an inevitable member of the Saurashtra cricket team, and following the closure of the New Zealand tour, was expected to join in for the Ranji trophy final. However in a bombshell, Jadeja has been barred to return to domestic cricket, by none other than BCCI Prez Sourav Ganguly!Advertisement Image Courtesy: AFPThe reason is obvious- India’s upcoming One Day International series against South Africa, which starts from 12th March. While the Ranji final against Bengal is on 9th, BCCI rejected Saurashtra Cricket Association (SCA)’s appeal to retain Jadeja for the match in Rajkot.Jaydev Shah, the president of SCA recently confirmed to The Indian Express that Ganguly has declined the request to get their star cricketer for the final match.Advertisement “I spoke to him (Sourav Ganguly) and was told that the board can’t allow Jadeja to play Ranji as the country comes first,” Shah told reporters. The Men in Blue, coming from a disastrous performance against the Kiwis, need to up their game against the Proteas, and missing out Jadeja could have dealt a big blow to the squad.Advertisement However, Shah wasn’t happy with BCCI’s decision of not releasing Jadeja for the final, and expressed his dissent towards the jostling fixtures between domestic and international cricket. The SCA prez continued: “If BCCI wants people to watch their premier domestic cricket then no international game should be held during Ranji final, henceforth. It’s my suggestion.”He also pointed out how international fixtures are instead kept clear during the blockbuster Indian Premier League season every year.“Will BCCI keep an international match during IPL? No, because it gives money. Ranji Trophy can only be popularised if star players play at least in the finals. Don’t keep any international cricket during finals, have a proper window,” Shah added.Along with Jadeja, Bengal cricket team icon Mohammed Shami will also not be available for the final.“I would have loved to see him (Jadeja) play the Ranji Trophy final for us, why only Jadeja, I would have loved to see Mohammad Shami also,” Shah concluded. Also read-Does Virat Kohli have hand-eye coordination issues?
